Birch Equipment Whatcom Hospice Pro-Am
Bellingham Golf & Country Club

Why We’re Here

Thank you to all involved in playing, fund raising, sponsoring & volunteering for the Birch Equipment Hospice Pro-Am.
I am asked regularly why I’ve been on the Whatcom Hospice Foundation Board for nearly 20 years but it’s hard to answer as people, experiences and memories seem to flood in- but here’s part of it-  I first saw the magic of Hospice in my 20’s when Hospice of Whatcom County helped my aunt & uncle care for my friend & cousin as she lost her battle to cancer. Everyone’s life seems to ebb and flow with their people passing, and in the last 24 months- 5 of my favorite people in the world have passed, 4 with the support and care of Hospice.

These days, it’s unusual to find someone who hasn’t been touched by Hospice services gracefully supporting the physical and emotional needs that come up during these bittersweet times.

In 2015, it was the right time to take on the Hospice golf tournament. The goal has been streamlining & revamping an already very cool event with less people working, more people enjoying and the goal of grossing a minimum of $250,000 and grossing over $175,000 by year 3 and beyond. I projected an average of 8 hours of my own time per week throughout the year, with the donation of my company’s amazing sports tickets, and an average of 4 hours per week for 9 months of the year by my brave friend & co-worker Jessie Everson.

With the help of the awesome Brooke McClary, Big Fresh  & Sole Graphics for website & social media support, services of Trent, Cameron and team at the Bellingham Golf & Country Club, a second-to-none volunteer team headed up by my beautiful fellow Whatcom Hospice Foundation Board Member Carol Garguile, day of MC magic by buddy Jon Sitkin of Chmelik, Sitkin Davis & new assistant MC this year the magnanimous Flo Simon of Bellingham Police Department, absolutely incredible Sponsors (Craig Mullarky of Sound Beverage is always first to say he’s in), Teams (Team Hayes, Hotel Bellwether & Team Holmstrom were top donators) and Pros (coolest Pros in WA) we hit our gross goal earning $252,000 last year!

It feels right to generate funds so that Hospice can go beyond their standards to provide over the top care. And the Birch Equipment Hospice Pro-Am comes together by the magic of an incredible group of people and businesses who believe in working hard, playing hard, and taking care of an amazing community service.

So cheers to you and a nod to our loved ones near, far and those just a bit out of our reach. ️

God willing, we just may hit our goal of netting over $175,000 for our Whatcom Hospice Services this year.
